Pre-Season Schedule Confirmed
Whitehaven Rugby League can today confirm our 2023 pre-season schedule which will see ourselves hosting the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy clash and two Super League sides over consecutive weekends in January.
Our first pre-season hit out sees the West Cumbrian Derby as we will welcome Workington Town Rugby League Football Club in the Ike Southward Memorial Trophy on Sunday 15th January. Neighbours Workington are the current holders of the trophy named after one of Cumbria’s Rugby League greats after a last gasp victory in the 2022 encounter. With ourselves and Workington playing in different divisions for 2023 this is scheduled to be the only West Cumbrian derby of 2023.
The following week sees Wigan Warriors come to town on Sunday 22nd January as Matty Peet’s men will make the journey to the LEL Arena. This will be our first meeting with the Warriors since our Round 5 Challenge Cup defeat back in May 2008. A game most remembered for the debut of Sam Tomkins for the Warriors.
The final of our pre-season encounters will see Super League opposition once again visit the LEL Arena with details to be revealed later this week.
All of these fixtures will kick off at 3pm.
