Whitehaven can today announce Will Evans as the first new signing to the club for the 2022 Betfred Championship season.
This signing sees the club's overseas scouting network continue where it left off with last season. Part of this network includes director Ashley Kilpatrick, who had this to say on the signing “I am absolutely delighted to have will on board, we looked at bringing Will over this season but he wanted another season in Australia at Burleigh which we totally understood, he’s came through the development systems at the Brisbane broncos and Gold Coast Titans as-well as playing a good standard at Burleigh he’s a centre who can cover the full back & wing positions. Will has represented Wales at international level in the 9s in 2017. Will has also captained Queensland u16s and we are expecting Will to be here the first week in January, we would as a club also like to thank Wills agent, Clinton Schifcofske, who brought Will to our attention and has been absolutely superb to deal with and patient from start to finish with us. “
Will’s move is being helped as he holds Welsh heritage and coupled with him coming through some great youth systems, we expect this the first of a number of new signings to try and ensure the club builds on a fantastic 2021.
Jonty Gorley, who is Haven’s assistant coach and part of the clubs Football Committee, expressed his pleasure in the signing of Will by saying “I'm delighted to have secured wills services for next year, I really like what we’ve seen of him on his highlight reel, he looks quick, agile and good on his feet, he has came through some good systems in Australia. We’ve done our homework on Will and spoke to a couple of people down under who speak highly of Will and one thing that stands out that has been mentioned is his attitude which is good. Will's coming over like the 3 lads have done this year, chancing his arm with us coming to have a dig and make a name for himself.“
