Whitehaven Rugby League are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of Perry Singleton for the remainder of the 2022 season while Glenn Riley has left the LEL Arena to join Workington Town on a permanent deal.

Singleton had initially joined the club on a one month loan deal from Betfred Championship neighbours Workington Town but after having impressed despite playing in two heavy defeats the club have moved to make this move permanent.

Head coach Jonty Gorley had been a long time admirer of Singleton and is glad to get Perry on a permanent basis saying “As previously mentioned I jumped at the chance to take Perry on loan for a month. Pez has just enhanced the way I feel about him and what I already knew he would bring to Whitehaven. I know the month loan is not finished but I didn't need a month to make my mind up about Pez. So we've decided to sign him for the rest of the season.

There are two sides to this. The first one is Pez has shown in two games that he will be a great addition for us. Secondly with the injury crisis we are going through this year, it frees a place up for another loan player as we are only allowed 5 at any one time. Pez will add another experienced head to our squad along with his aggressive defensive style and his utility value.”

Director Ashley Kilpatrick spoke about the permanent acquisition of Singleton saying “it’s great to have ‘Pez’ on a permanent deal until the end of the season, I think he has shown in his 2 games for the club what he can bring us, with his defence and aggression out wide. He’s also really enthusiastic and loving his time at the club he’s an upbeat lad and when things aren’t going our way at the moment someone like Perry with that enthusiasm can pick the lads up.”

As we welcome Singleton on a permanent basis until the end of the season we say farewell and give our best wishes to Glenn Riley who has left the club. Glenn has made 57 appearances in the Chocolate, Blue and Gold across two spells scoring 7 tries and played his last game for the club in this season’s league opener away to Leigh Centurions.

Ashley Kilpatrick said of Riley’s departure “We as a club would like to thank Glenn for his time and efforts at the club, he goes with everyone’s best wishes. It’s unfortunate it hasn’t worked out for Glenn this time round with a knee injury sustained last year and some off the field stuff this year. As I’ve said previously Glenn had trained the house down in pre season. All the best to Glenn and hopefully it works out for him.”
