Whitehaven RL have continued to build for the 2021 Betfred Championship season by signing experienced prop forward, Andrew Dawson. The thirty-one year old started his professional career with Barrow, making his debut for them in February 2012. In 2018 he moved up the coast to Workington Town on a two year deal. He now joins Whitehaven on a one year deal.
Chairman, Tom Todd, believes the prop will add valuable experience to the Haven pack. Commenting on the signing he said, “The club is delighted to have signed Andrew Dawson. Playing prop forward and with a wealth of experience behind him he will add even more power to the team's pack. He made his debut for Barrow in 2012 and was in the Barrow squad, twice that won promotion to the Championship, so he is very familiar with the game at that level. Playing over 170 games he will no doubt be a big asset going forward. I would like to welcome Andrew to the club and again thanks to all concerned who have brought this signing about.”
He has played one hundred and seventy-four games in his career at Barrow and Workington Town including two seasons at Championship level with Barrow. Dawson said of his signing, “I’m delighted to have signed for Whitehaven and I’m looking forward to playing in the Championship again. It is something that I have always wanted to do and I’m grateful to Whitehaven for giving me the opportunity again.”
Haven Assistant Coach Jonty Gorley said, “Its good to have “Brewy” on board he gives us more experience. He’s a good, no nonsense Cumbrian type of forward who will gain yards well and can defend well.”
Dawson is the fifth new member of the clubs 2021 squad.
