Whitehaven RL community foundation was formed in 2003. The objective was to bring Rugby League in to the schools of Copeland.

The community development team visit primary and secondary schools and deliver basic rugby league skills alongside lifestyle and dietary advice.

Special consideration is given to disabled children and both girls and boys are included at all levels. Festivals are held at the end of each six week coaching block, the festival is usually held at the Recreation Ground giving the children a chance to see where Whitehaven play and to meet some of the professional players.

The foundation has worked with the primary care trust to deliver messages regarding alcohol abuse, smoking and heart disease. We also work closely with children who are struggling to fit in to a generic school environment with our ‘RESPECT' campaign, this allows the children to develop team skills and personal confidence. We are involved with around 1000 children a year during our coaching sessions.
